Important update: The seventh meeting of the K-Circle Morrissey Commission takes place on Thursday, November 21st at 6 PM at the Holiday Inn Express at 69 Boston Street. You can also attend via Zoom. More details here: https://www.mass.gov/k-circle-morrissey-study
This is a critical meeting to ensure the project benefits the community. Please try to attend and encourage your neighbors to attend.
Here are talking points from the Government Affairs Committee. Our top requests include:
- Comprehensive planning for the 10,000 additional housing units and 7 million square feet of development along the Morrissey corridor
- Planning K-Circle, as required by law
- More options on climate resiliency efforts beyond building a wall between Savin Hill and the sea
- Options for the significant ecological concerns with the waterfront and Dorchester Basin
The six commission meetings to date have not included comprehensive planning and K-Circle, plus have become increasingly vague on traffic volumes, mitigations for climate resiliency, and ecological issues on the waterfront.
Given the limited progress, we do not see how these items can be substantially addressed, with opportunity for feedback, in one or two remaining meetings. We will ask for the Commission to continue its work through 2025 until its original mandate has been met. If you feel similarly, please say so at the meeting.
