Police Report (Officer Keaney)

  • 11/21, 3 AM. A speeding car on Columbia Road and Dorchester Ave ran a red light and was pulled over. The 25-year-old operator had a suspended license. The car was towed, and he will appear before the Dorchester District Court.
  • 11/28, 3:58 AM. 193 Grampian Way, a black male in a white hoodie stole the U-lock bike chain and bike. They have a picture of the man. If anyone sees him, call 911.
  • 11/28, 5:40 PM, 89 Tuttle Street. A 5’4” male suspect wearing black appeared in the apartment. It is unknown how he got in. Upon discovery he fled.
  • 11/30, 2:10 PM. A 44-year-old male on Columbia Road and East Cottage Street was pointing a gun and threatening people. He fled and after a struggle was apprehended on Pond Street. He had a replica BB gun, which he also pointed at officers. He was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
  • Bill Walczak noted that a similar involving a fake gun incident recently took place near the cemetery on Columbia Road. The man was not threatening anyone or pointing the gun, so he was not arrested.
  • The C-11 Christmas Party will take place on 12/15 by invitation only.
    • If you have any new, unwrapped gifts for 2-10 year-olds, you can:
      • Drop them off at C-11,
      • Call C-11 to have the picked up,
      • Or give them to Marta Carney for distribution.
    • In the past, over 400 kids plus their parents or guardians attended.
    • Last year due to Covid, they had around 125 kids.
    • This year due to Covid and RSV, they will host 125 kids.
    • Left-overs from the party last year helped 50-80 families in Dorchester.
  • If you want to help with wrapping the gifts, call the C-11 office for wrapping dates.
  • Heads up, porch pirates are active this time of year.

Administrative and Special Election

  • The November minutes were approved.
  • Elected officials were acknowledged. Newly elected Councilor John Fitzgerald was in attendance.
  • Our thanks and appreciation to outgoing Councilor Frank Baker will take place at the January meeting as he is away.
  • We unanimously elected sole nominee Bill Walczak to serve as the next CSHCA president beginning in January 2024. Bill has lived in Savin Hill for 47 years and served as the CSHCA president in the 80s. He looks forward to moving the agenda forward and spoke of the many opportunities to come.

Committee Reports

  • Events Committee (Michelle Miller)
    • The Caroling Event will be on Tuesday, 12/12, from 5:30 PM – 7 PM in front of Christo Rey High School. It will be a stationary event this year. There will be hot cocoa, candy canes, snacks, and Santa. The rain date is Wednesday, 12/13.
    • A Bowling Event for members is being planned for January 2024. Details to follow.
  • Community Benefits Committee (CBC) (Don Walsh)
    • Next month at the January 8 general membership meeting, membership will vote to accept or reject the $750,000 donation from Center Court.
    • The Memorandum of Agreement with Center Court is in draft form to be reviewed and discussed before any final approval. It will be made available to members before the January meeting.
    • Changes in procedures for managing the money with amendments to the By-Laws need to be made.
    • A document outlining ideas for spending the money is being worked on and will be shared with membership before the January meeting.
    • The next CBC meeting will take place Thursday, January 18, 7 PM at the Savin Hill Yacht Club on Morrissey Boulevard. Come share your ideas
  • Planning Committee (Kristine Hoag) – Two voting items
    • 14 Victoria Street – a request for a curb cut to add a driveway of grey stone or brick next to the home. Added plantings along the fence to the direct abutter will be installed.
      • Support was unanimous
    • 9 Elton Street – the addition of a 10’x20’ third floor roof deck in the rear staying within the existing footprint of the house. It is an addition to a single-family home.
      • Support was unanimous
    • The agenda for 12/12 has been sent out. 243D Savin Hill Avenue is deferring until January due to unforeseen issues.

Special Thanks to

  • All the organizers and local merchants who made the CSHCA Christmas Party possible.
  • All the committees who have worked hard throughout the year to make this an active and desirable community to live in.
  • Everyone who helped decorate and hang the wreaths along Dorchester Avenue, with a special thanks to Sully Mac for his time, effort, and use of his bucket truck.
  • Elizabeth Doyle for her service and guidance as CSHCA president.
