Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 1
- The current forecast is for significant rain.
- A decision to reschedule to Sunday, April 2 at 10 AM, will be made and communicated by Brianna later this week. Heidi will keep Elizabeth posted about a rain date.
- Alix will connect with Brianna on details for posting, including the rain date.
- A CSHCA table with membership forms and informational flyers will be manned by Elizabeth Doyle and Lavinia. Michelle and Alix will check their supplies for the CSHCA banner.
Neighborhood Clean-Up Dates – separate flyers should be created for each.
- April 15, One Boston Day
- Des Rohan is organizing a clean-up of parks near him and areas of the beach.
- There was a question about the date, the 14th or 15th. Heidi will clarify the date and plans with Des.
- Heidi will contact volunteer coordinator Matthew (matthew.s.perry2@state.ma.us) at DCR to see if DCR will support clean-up of the beach area.
- April 22, Park Clean-up Day
- Alix has been in contact with DCR to get support in tree trimming of dead branches and removal of large pieces of debris in Patten’s Cove. DCR claims that as per their contract, maintenance of the cove is the responsibility of Southline, so they will not support any volunteer efforts.
- Communication is currently lacking between community members, DCR, and Southline. It is essential to improve communication among stakeholders.
- Should a “Friends of Patten’s Cove” non-profit be created? Money should already be available for maintenance of the cove.
- Elizabeth Doyle says we should contact Representative Dan Hunt, who has been helpful in the past with DCR issues.
- Alix will contact Kirk Carapezza and Bill Walczak about the flyer to make it clear that there are two different sites: Savin Hill Park and Patten’s Cove and that people should go to the site of their choice.
- Doreen can help post flyers around the neighborhood.
- June 10, with a rain date of June 11, Surf Rider Beach Clean-up (Katrina Martin)
- Katrina is a member of the Massachusetts Chapter of Surf Rider, a non-profit organization that cleans up beaches and that shares a grant with UMass Boston’s Urban Harbors Institute.
- A clean-up is being organized by Surf Rider for Savin Hill and Malibu beaches, and the waterfront areas along the boulevard.
- Suggestions were made to get B.C. High and Cristo Rey High School students involved.
- Katrina will email Elizabeth Doyle with details. She will briefly present this idea at the April General Meeting with a more detailed follow-up at the May meeting.
Dorchester Day Parade, June 4
- There is a Dot Day Parade Kick-off Wed. 3/29, from 7-9 PM at Ghost Pepper.
- Alix has been in contact with Kelly, who will help with the application process for the parade.
- We were thinking of having a CSHCA truck or float.
- We could wear T-shirts representing the committees and hand out treats, etc.
The Plant and Bake Sale by the Beautification Committee
- A date and details will be set at the April meeting of the Beautification Committee.
- The Events Committee will support this endeavor.
The Summer Community Picnic – August
- Alix will contact Catherine O’Neil to see how Southline may be willing to support this event.
- Last year they paid the costs of the permit, the application, and insurance, and they also provided the porta-potties.
The Next Events Committee meeting: April 25th, 6 PM, In Person at McConnell Park Seating Area
- An invitation will be extended to the general membership to encourage more people to join.
- Elizabeth Doyle will make the announcement of the time and venue change for this meeting at the April general meeting.
- In case of rain, nothing formal was decided… revert to Zoom, or have it at someone’s home?
