CSHCA Meeting Minutes – December 5, 2022

Police Report Officer Keamy

  • 11/6, 8 PM – unarmed robbery at 84 Savin Hill Avenue. Mother and daughter, returning from shopping, confronted someone trying to break into their home. Suspect took the phone and punched the daughter and mother in the head. The husband who was home came out and pinned suspect to the ground until police arrived. 27-year-old man from Brighton was arrested and charged with trespassing, 2 counts of assault and battery, and unarmed robbery.
  • 11/13, 3 AM, robbery at the hair salon at 988 Dorchester Ave. – Suspect, seen on security video breaking in the rear door with a crowbar,  is a 40-45 year old while male with a distinct gait and bent neck. He stole a security monitor, a blanket, pillow, and clothes. He was stopped and arrested in the South Bay area.
  • 11/30, 10:30 AM, 2 masked 18-year-old homeless individuals – a man and woman – broke in at 23 Thornley Street.  They were later positively identified and charged.

 C-11 Kids’ Christmas Party at the Elevator Constructors’ Union Hall on Park Street

  • Three years ago, they had about 400 kids.
  • Due to the prevalence of RSV, it is being limited to 100-125 kids by invitation only.
  • There will be Santa, food, cake, and gift toys.
  • Please share names of any families in need with Officer Keamy at 617-343-4524 before 12/13.
  • You can also donate to the C-11 Toy Drive by Venmo to Des Rohan (@Des-Rohan) or by check made out to CSHCA c/o Des Rohan, 4 Buttonwood Court, Dorchester, MA 02125. Write Toy Drive in the memo.

Membership Renewal Reminder

  • Please renew your membership for 2023. It is $10, which can be paid by Venmo to Des Rohan (@Des-Rohan) or by check made out to CSHCA c/o Des Rohan, 4 Buttonwood Court, Dorchester, MA 02125, with membership in the memo line.

New updated By-Laws

  • The revisions to the by-laws were sent out last month for member review.
  • If you need a copy, email Elizabeth Doyle.
  • There will be a vote to adopt the new by-laws at the January meeting, 1/9/23.

Committee Reports

Safety Committee (Dianne Lescinskas)

  • The chairs are working with Pearse Martin from Senator Collins office as well with Council Baker, Rep. Dan Hunt, and city officials on the problems at Walgreen’s.
  • There are no updates to report. They are will awaiting a response from the city.
  • Maureen McQuillen met with Betty from Walgreen’s corporate office customer relations manager. Walgreen’s is dealing with significant theft at that location.  She hopes to reconnect with Betty within a week.

Planning Committee (Kristine Hoag)

  • The 11 Spring Garden proposed project scheduled for tomorrow night has been postponed until January.
  • 6 Pleasant Street project has a ZBA date tomorrow.
  • The garage to Eyelash studio project on Dorchester Ave has a ZBA date of 12/8.
  • 12/7 is the zoom meeting for 900 Morrissey.

Events Committee (Michelle Miller)

  • The Caroling event will take place on Wed. 12/ 14 from 5- 7:30 PM with a rain date of Wed. 12/21.
  • Gather at the tennis courts on Grampian Way at 5 PM for hot cocoa and treats, and to meet Santa. At 5:30 we will begin our walk along the caroling route.
  • The route map will be posted to Facebook this week.
  • If you are along the route and want the group to stop and sing for you, let Michelle Miller or Elizabeth Doyle know.

Community Benefits Committee (Don Walsh)

  • The committee has been meeting to discuss and put together a list of recommendations on how to use the $100 million in benefits that are forthcoming.
  • They are compiling a list of contacts, which include Rep. Dan Hunt, who has worked on bringing the state and city together on the comprehensive planning of developments in our area.
  • The next meeting is January 19, 7 PM at Savin Hill Yacht Club on Morrissey Boulevard.

Other business

  • Cristo Rey Open House this Wednesday, 12/7 from 6 – 8 PM. There will be wine, beer, and a tour of the school. All are welcome!
  • The Savin Hill bridge is being worked on over the next several weeks to replace two main girders. Rep. Dan Hunt has requested jersey barriers to replace the traffic cones currently being used for pedestrian safety. A request was made from the membership to have these barriers on both sides of the bridge as it is difficult to cross over. Rep. Dan Hunt will include this in his request.
  • Many thanks to all the businesses that donated prizes for the Holiday Raffles! They will be acknowledged on the CSHCA website.
